A digital twin of the National Caucasus Trail has been announced. A digital twin project for the National Caucasus Trail was announced for the first time at MITT-2026, Russia's largest tourism and hospitality exhibition and forum, held in Moscow. The key discussion took place at the session "A Resort of Great Meanings: How to Digitize a Territory's Cultural Code." Representatives of the state corporation Kavkaz.RF, Khasan Timizhev, Rustam Tapayev, and Tatyana Baeva, discussed the features and capabilities of the digital twin, which will begin pilot operation this May.

Digitalization of sites and trails in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic began in the 2026-2027 season. During the first field trip in 2026, work was completed on more than 100 sites on the slopes of Mount Elbrus at altitudes up to 4,600 meters. In 2026, work is planned in all mountainous regions of Kabardino-Balkaria, with a focus on cultural heritage sites, natural monuments, and eco-trail infrastructure. The work is being carried out jointly with partners of the Territory Center.

Route Object Types. New object types have been added to the system, primarily for objects located on designated hiking trails: Navigation — for designating posts, signs, and markers containing location information and directions. Information — assigned to information boards, posts, and signs if they contain important and useful information. Viewpoint — assigned to locations offering remarkable views, often of other objects located in the distance. Rest Area — for designating specially equipped areas intended for rest (gazebos, benches) or camping. Spring — assigned to natural sources of drinking water. Each type has its own graphic symbol, unique parameters, and response algorithms. Object types are assigned to area administrators when creating the object.
