The monument to Gagarin was included in the state register of cultural heritage objects.
The monument by sculptor Pavel Bondarenko, dedicated to Yuri Gagarin, was opened in Moscow on July 04, 1980 for the XXII Summer Olympic Games. It was made of titanium, which is used in the construction of spaceships. The place for the monument was not chosen by chance - it was along Leninsky Prospekt that Gagarin entered the city from Vnukovo airport to report on the results of the first space flight.
