The Peterhof State Museum-Reserve has shown how restoration work is progressing at the Monplaisir Palace, which will be closed to visitors from 2023.
Today, the paintings on the ceilings and cornices, the gilded plaster moldings, the parquet flooring, and the brickwork of the walls are being restored, and the stucco decoration of the ceilings is being cleaned.
Built in the Dutch tradition, the palace was personally designed by Emperor Peter I, who made several sketches and approved the layout. Early Baroque masters Andreas Schlüter, Johann Braunstein, Jean-Baptiste Leblon, and Niccolò Micetti worked on the construction.
