Irafsky District

Irafsky District

Welcome to the Irafsky District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Located in the southwestern part of the republic, most of the district is mountainous. It borders Georgia, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, and the Digorsky and Alagirsky districts. The administrative center is the village of Chikola. The population is over 15,000 people, mainly Ossetians and Russians. The Ossetians of the district speak the Digor dialect of the Ossetian language. The economy of the Irafsky District is based on agriculture—there are five collective farms and four state farms here. The district also has a consumer services complex, housing and utilities enterprises, and the Fasnalskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant. Tourism is well developed. The district is rich in historical, cultural, and natural monuments. The Alania National Park is located in the district, where there are many mountaineering, tourist, and ecological trails.

On June 12, in honor of the national holiday—Russia Day—a passport presentation ceremony for young citizens of the Russian Federation was held in the Government House of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.

Twenty-seven young men and women who distinguished themselves in academics, sports, creativity, science, and community service were awarded their first official document—a Russian passport. The passports were presented to the young people by the Head of the Republic, Sergei Ivanovich Menyailo.

Among those awarded were representatives of the Irafsky District: Ruslan Tokazov, a student at Sovetskoye village school, and Lyubov Budayeva, a student at School No. 3 in Chikola village.
