Russia will establish its first cable car certification center.

This will be Kavkaz-Engineering, a company with expertise in the construction and operation of large infrastructure projects in the North Caucasus. The Russian government previously introduced equipment certification for all new passenger cable cars. It will become mandatory on September 1, 2026.

The purpose of these changes is to tighten quality and safety requirements for cable cars, both those manufactured in Russia and those imported. The list of equipment requiring certification includes fixed and detachable clamps, cabins (including those designed for people with disabilities), open chairs and chairs with protective canopies, cabin and chair suspensions, intermediate frames, drive and idler pulley assemblies, tension pulleys, load tensioners, tension trolleys, hydraulic tensioner cylinders, service and emergency brakes, as well as guide rollers and roller balancers.

A certificate of conformity for each component must be obtained by ropeway manufacturers and suppliers, or by those operating them and planning installation or modernization.

To undergo the certification process, you must contact an accredited certification body. The process includes preparing an application package, testing, and issuing a certificate. To confirm the compliance of ropeway components and assemblies with regulatory requirements, testing will be conducted by an accredited laboratory.
