With the support of a grant from the Russian Geographical Society, the monograph “Vladikavkaz - the Fate of a Fortress”, written by Delyara Tebiyeva, Head of the Department of Physical and Socio-Economic Geography at North Ossetian State University, and Lyubov Kebalova, Associate Professor at the Department of Ecology and Nature Management, was published.
The authors investigated in detail the origin and development of the fortress, which was originally conceived as a defense outpost of the Caucasus. It was from here that the construction of the famous Georgian Military Road - a strategic artery that played a crucial role in the development of the region and strengthening of Russia's position in the south of the country - began. Readers will learn about visits to the fortress by such personalities as Emperor Nicholas I, Alexander Pushkin and Iranian Prince Khozrev-Mirza.
