The historic building at the corner of 23 Bolshoi Prospect, Vasilievsky Island and Line 7 has had its gutters replaced, the color of which is heartwarming.
The corner plot on Vasilievsky Island at the end of the XVIII century belonged to a prominent statesman, Senator V.Y.Novosiltsev, who was the president of the Manufaktur-Collegium and built a three-story stone house on this place.
Since the middle of the XIX century the building was occupied by the inn “Golden Deer” with a hotel, called simply “Deer”. Its garden, enclosed by a fence, occupied a part of the present boulevard on the avenue. The garden had a bowling alley, tables and a band played. In the fall of 1863, one of the hotel rooms of the inn was rented by nineteen-year-old I.E. Repin, who first came from Chuguev. From the 1830s the building was owned by the Zhernov family. In the 1960s the house was added on.
