Irafsky District

Welcome to the Irafsky District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Located in the southwestern part of the republic, most of the district is mountainous. It borders Georgia, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, and the Digorsky and Alagirsky districts. The administrative center is the village of Chikola. The population is over 15,000 people, mainly Ossetians and Russians. The Ossetians of the district speak the Digor dialect of the Ossetian language. The economy of the Irafsky District is based on agriculture—there are five collective farms and four state farms here. The district also has a consumer services complex, housing and utilities enterprises, and the Fasnalskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant. Tourism is well developed. The district is rich in historical, cultural, and natural monuments. The Alania National Park is located in the district, where there are many mountaineering, tourist, and ecological trails.

Last weekend, the second Iraf Wrestling League tournament was held at the Chikola Sports and Health Complex, which contributed to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the Russian government's “Sport of Russia” program.

This tournament debuted in February this year and immediately won the hearts of athletes and fans. Its creators are three-time European freestyle wrestling champion among juniors Marat Fadzayev and municipal coordinator of the “First Movement” in the Iraf district Alan Sailaonov.

At the end of the competition, wrestlers from the Irafsky District won championship belts and medals.
