The "Dioscuri Taming Horses" sculpture at the Manege is being restored.
The twin brothers Castor and Polydeuces, heroes of ancient Greek mythology, which adorn the entrance to the Central Exhibition Hall on St Isaac's Square, are already being examined for damage. The Manege building was constructed between 1804 and 1807 in the classical style, designed by Giacomo Quarenghi, for year-round cavalry training and for the ceremonial dressage of the Life Guards Cavalry Regiment. Copies of the marble sculptures of the Dioscuri, which stand in front of the Quirinal Palace, were commissioned from Italy toward the end of the building's construction.
