The date of foundation of Pyatigorsk State University is considered to be June 27, 1939, when the Pedagogical School officially became a higher educational institution. Since then, the university has undergone various changes and transformations - an increase in the number of years of study, several renamings - and officially became known as Pyatigorsk State University in 2016. Since 2005, the head of the university is Professor Gorbunov Alexander Pavlovich. By 2009, 10 faculties were formed at the university. Further, on their basis, institutes and higher schools were created, having one of the faculties in their composition. In addition, PSU is actively developing the system of pre-university, postgraduate and additional education. It has a branch in Novorossiysk. Currently, the university has 34 departments. Now Pyatigorsk State University has more than 5,500 students and 3,000 students from different regions of Russia and foreign countries. All the peoples of the Caucasus are also represented in PSU.

On October 31, the Greater Caucasus Discussion Club met with students of the Institute of International Relations in the Studio of the Russian Society “Knowledge”.

The Head of the Department of Journalism, Media Communications and Public Relations of IMO PSU – Irina Gereikhanova took an active part in the event.

The event featured the screening of films “Uncultured Caucasus”, “Inconvenient Caucasus”. The editor-in-chief of the information and analytical portal “Caucasus” discussed social projects in the format of a travel show with future media and journalists. Today" - Margarita Vladimirovna Zhemchugova. Margarita Vladimirovna spoke about the stages of content production, the meanings that it is important to lay in modern media, as well as how to effectively work with complex topics.

Irina Gereikhanova stressed in her speech that the Caucasus preserves the past and creates the future. Such projects partially help to solve the problem of popularizing Russia in the international arena as a defender and guardian of traditional values. Cultural diversity, natural resources, hospitality and historical heritage are the very values and virtues of the Caucasus that must be preserved and proudly broadcast on the territory of Russia.

The project manager, Alexander Karmanov, noted that the Greater Caucasus Discussion Club is a unique platform for exchanging views and knowledge about the history and culture of the North Caucasus, which contributes to effective interfaith dialogue in the region.

The project is implemented with the support of the Plenipotentiary Representation of the President of the Russian Federation in the NCFD, North Caucasus Federal University and the editorial office of the Caucasus.
