The St. Petersburg State Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage reports that the Reichel House on the corner of line 8 of Vasilievsky Island and the embankment of the Smolenka River has acquired the status of an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.
The building was constructed in 1909-1910 according to the project of architect Vasily Veys for the dormitory of workers of mechanical and optical plant N.I.Reikhel. Later the plant itself was located here. Under Soviet rule and after the Reichel family emigrated to Finland, the plant was nationalized and became part of the Leningrad Optical and Mechanical Association.
