Today, May 18, the Day of Ingush Towers is celebrated – a holiday that symbolizes the strength, wisdom and intransigence of our people. These majestic buildings, which have stood on our land for centuries, are an integral part of the cultural heritage of Ingushetia.
"Day of the Ingush Towers" is a republican holiday, which is annually celebrated on the third Saturday of May. It was established in 2021 by order of the Head of Ingushetia Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov.
The towers of Ingushetia are a symbol of the region, and the name “GIalgiai” itself comes from the word “giala” (tower), which means “inhabitants of the towers”. The history of the Ingush towers goes back centuries. The first towers were built in the Middle Ages and served as houses, fortresses and symbols of social status. They were built of stone and clay, which made them resistant to time and external influences.
The towers were also of great social importance. They symbolized the unity and strength of the Ingush families. Each tower is a unique architectural work, reflecting the skill and talent of its creators.
Today, Ingush towers are not only architectural monuments, but also a symbol of the cultural revival of our people. They attract tourists from all over the world, being the pride and heritage of Ingushetia.
