Irafsky District

Welcome to the Irafsky District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Located in the southwestern part of the republic, most of the district is mountainous. It borders Georgia, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, and the Digorsky and Alagirsky districts. The administrative center is the village of Chikola. The population is over 15,000 people, mainly Ossetians and Russians. The Ossetians of the district speak the Digor dialect of the Ossetian language. The economy of the Irafsky District is based on agriculture—there are five collective farms and four state farms here. The district also has a consumer services complex, housing and utilities enterprises, and the Fasnalskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant. Tourism is well developed. The district is rich in historical, cultural, and natural monuments. The Alania National Park is located in the district, where there are many mountaineering, tourist, and ecological trails.

As part of the "Sport of Russia" state program, a republic-level freestyle wrestling tournament was held at the sports and wellness complex in the village of Chikola. The event was dedicated to the memory of Tasoltan Magometovich Khatagov, an International-Class Master of Sports of the USSR.

The opening ceremony was attended by Taimuraz Tuskaev, Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, and Soslan Makoev, Acting Head of the Irafsky Municipal District.

Young wrestlers born between 2012 and 2013—the top athletes across 12 weight categories (ranging from 35 to 100 kg)—competed on the mat.

The winners and medalists of the tournament were awarded championship belts, medals, certificates, and commemorative T-shirts.
