Irafsky District

Welcome to the Irafsky District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Located in the southwestern part of the republic, most of the district is mountainous. It borders Georgia, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, and the Digorsky and Alagirsky districts. The administrative center is the village of Chikola. The population is over 15,000 people, mainly Ossetians and Russians. The Ossetians of the district speak the Digor dialect of the Ossetian language. The economy of the Irafsky District is based on agriculture—there are five collective farms and four state farms here. The district also has a consumer services complex, housing and utilities enterprises, and the Fasnalskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant. Tourism is well developed. The district is rich in historical, cultural, and natural monuments. The Alania National Park is located in the district, where there are many mountaineering, tourist, and ecological trails.

The Beslan Sports and Health Complex hosted the RSO-Alania Armwrestling Championship for boys and juniors, in which more than 400 young athletes from all over North Ossetia took part.

The competitions were held as part of the state program “Sport of Russia.” The tournament was organized by the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in conjunction with the Republican Armwrestling Federation.

The Irafsky District was represented at these competitions by members of the Urozhay sports association, led by coach Valery Andreevich Karaev.

The young athletes demonstrated a high level of training and won a number of prizes.
