As part of the "Youth and Children" national project, a young naturalists' club called "Urukh"—named after the main waterway of the Digora Gorge—has been launched at the local branch of the Surkh-Digora Secondary School.
What does the club do? It focuses on several key areas:
Greening and planting: Students plant trees and shrubs on the school grounds to ensure the school is surrounded by lush greenery.
Environmental clean-up campaigns: Members help keep their village tidy, look after local monuments, and clear trash from the banks of the Urukh River.
Research: Students study the unique flora and fauna of the Irafsky District, including rare plant species found in the Alania National Park.
Caring for wildlife: The club members build bird feeders and nesting boxes to help birds survive the winter.
Volunteer initiatives: The club organizes the collection of used batteries and waste paper, and participates in projects focused on waste sorting and recycling.
The club’s activities are dedicated to making the school, the village, and the gorge itself cleaner, greener, and more beautiful.
