A fresh edition of “Russian Provincial Estate. M.A.Polyakova and E.N.Savinova, “Russian Provincial Estate.
The authors trace the evolution of the Russian provincial manor: from the fortified manor houses of the XVII century, prosperous and modest estates of the XVIII-XIX centuries to the decaying old noble nests of the early XX century.
The main object of study of historians became country estates of middle-class wealth. It is impossible to imagine the Russian summer landscape of the bygone centuries without small wooden manor houses of any architecture, drowning in the greenery of gardens. The childhood years of a whole pleiad of Russian writers, poets, artists, scientists, thinkers and political figures - A.S. Pushkin, S.T. Aksakov, M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, A.A. Fet, J.P. Polonsky, A.A. Blok, A.T. Bolotov, N.I. Turgenev, A.S. Griboyedov and many others - were spent there.
