According to RBC today, US President Donald Trump yesterday ordered government buildings to be constructed in the classical Greek or Roman style. The decree is entitled “Making Federal Architecture Great Again.”
“The construction of such buildings will visually connect the modern state with the origins of democracy in antiquity,” the document states. The president said that for a century and a half after the founding of the United States, federal architecture “continued to be characterized by beautiful and beloved buildings,” but since the 1960s, the federal government has replaced traditional building designs with “modernist and brutalist” ones.
