A group of St. Petersburg residents, mainly consisting of veterans of the Great Patriotic War and residents of the Siege of Leningrad, criticized the new project of restoration and adaptation of the Stables Department building.
The authors are to present the concept of the historical building's development tomorrow at a meeting of the Cultural Heritage Council. The concept suggests using the eastern wing of the historic building for family audiences, while the western wing will house a food court for single visitors, couples and large companies.
The complex of buildings of the Stables Department was built in 1720-1723 according to the project of architect N. Gerbel under the decree of Emperor Peter the Great. In 1817-1823 it was reconstructed according to the project of architect V. Stasov. It was here, in the Church of the Savior before the funeral of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, and on February 22, 1857 in the church was held a memorial service in memory of Mikhail Glinka.
