The historical, architectural and natural museum-reserve "Jeyrakh-Assinsky" is located within the boundaries of the Dzheyrakh district of the Republic of Ingushetia on the northern slopes of the foothills of the Central part of the Greater Caucasus Range. The reserve was established on June 2, 1988. The area of the reserve is slightly more than 627 square kilometers. The activity of the reserve is aimed at ensuring the preservation, restoration and study of territorial complexes of cultural and natural heritage, material and spiritual values in their traditional historical (cultural and natural) environment. On the territory of the museum-reserve there are 122 ancient architectural complexes, including more than 2,670 objects of cultural significance, including defensive and residential towers, burial crypts, Christian and pagan sanctuaries and temples. The oldest buildings of the megalithic type belong to the middle of the second millennium BC. Every year, significant scientific discoveries are made on the territory of the reserve, new objects are identified, archaeological expeditions are constantly working, scientists from all over the world come. Since 1996, the reserve has been a candidate for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Important importance in the reserve is given to work on creating conditions for the development of organized tourism, its educational and service component.

Yesterday, together with the staff of the Dzhirakh-Assinsky Museum-Reserve and the Committee for State Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Republic of Ingushetia, timed to the International Day of Monuments and Historical Places, which is celebrated on April 18 around the world, and the motto of which was the words: “Preserve our historical homeland”, held a large-scale Saturday on the territory of the Egikal complex, along the bed of the Agi-Khi River – a tributary of Assa.

As a result of sanitary measures, a tributary of the Assa River was cleaned, about 15 bags of garbage were collected and removed.

The event was held in order to attract the attention of the general public and government officials to the protection and preservation of local monuments and historical sites, as well as world cultural heritage sites.

International Monuments and Sites Day, also known as World Heritage Day, was established in 1982 by the Assembly of the International Council for the Protection of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), established under UNESCO.

It has been celebrated since 1984 and provides an opportunity to learn more about the diversity of the world’s heritage and the forces that are applied to its protection and preservation.

Russia currently has about 150,000 objects of cultural heritage of federal and regional significance. The basic law in the field of preservation, use and state protection of objects of cultural heritage (monuments of history and culture) is the Federal law of June 25, 2002 N 73-FZ "On objects of cultural heritage (monuments of history and culture) of the peoples of the Russian Federation".
