Irafsky District

Welcome to the Irafsky District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Located in the southwestern part of the republic, most of the district is mountainous. It borders Georgia, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, and the Digorsky and Alagirsky districts. The administrative center is the village of Chikola. The population is over 15,000 people, mainly Ossetians and Russians. The Ossetians of the district speak the Digor dialect of the Ossetian language. The economy of the Irafsky District is based on agriculture—there are five collective farms and four state farms here. The district also has a consumer services complex, housing and utilities enterprises, and the Fasnalskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant. Tourism is well developed. The district is rich in historical, cultural, and natural monuments. The Alania National Park is located in the district, where there are many mountaineering, tourist, and ecological trails.

A meeting of residents of the Galyat rural settlement was held in the village of Kamunta. The event was attended by representatives of the district administration and supervisory authorities: Deputy Head of the Irafsky District AAs part of the national project “Family,” creative groups from the District Palace of Culture in the village of Chikola performed at the high-altitude recreation center “Porog Nebo” last weekend. The event was part of a systematic effort to strengthen family values and organize accessible cultural leisure activities.

The artists presented guests and residents of the republic with a program of original performances that allowed them to immerse themselves in the cultural traditions of Ossetia.

The national project “Family” focuses not only on material support, but also on strengthening spiritual ties. Sergey Karginov, head of the settlement, presented a report on the work done over the past period to those gathered.

During the meeting, topical issues of the territory's development were discussed. In particular, residents and government officials discussed:

road improvements;

the organization of veterinary care;

prospects for the development of rural tourism;

water supply problems;

land resource issues.

Representatives of the district administration and services provided comprehensive explanations on the spot for a number of issues. For other, more complex issues, it was decided to carry out additional work with subsequent monitoring of implementation.
