The building of the Society for the Promotion of Religious and Moral Education at 20 Stremyannaya Street in St. Petersburg has been recognized as a regional monument.
The society, founded in 1881, opened churches, schools, charitable institutions, and printing houses in St. Petersburg, as well as book warehouses for the sale of religious and moral books at low prices, and opened five libraries.
One of the libraries was located in the building at 20 Stremyannaya Street. The building was designed in 1899 by Gustav von Goli. The design was later revised by architect Hermann Grimm, who created the facades in the North German Gothic brick style.
