Irafsky District
Irafsky District

Welcome to the Irafsky District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Located in the southwestern part of the republic, most of the district is mountainous. It borders Georgia, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, and the Digorsky and Alagirsky districts. The administrative center is the village of Chikola. The population is over 15,000 people, mainly Ossetians and Russians. The Ossetians of the district speak the Digor dialect of the Ossetian language. The economy of the Irafsky District is based on agriculture—there are five collective farms and four state farms here. The district also has a consumer services complex, housing and utilities enterprises, and the Fasnalskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant. Tourism is well developed. The district is rich in historical, cultural, and natural monuments. The Alania National Park is located in the district, where there are many mountaineering, tourist, and ecological trails.

A large-scale reconstruction of the water supply system is underway in the Irafsky District, implemented as part of the "Infrastructure for Life" national project. The main goal is to completely replace the worn-out networks, which have been causing inconvenience to local residents for many years.

Work is ongoing simultaneously in several sections, with the key link being the renovation of the water pipeline from the Sakhola natural spring catchment to the distribution reservoir at the 4th kilometer of the Chikola-Akhsarisar highway.

Once the reconstruction is complete, more than 15,000 people will receive a stable and uninterrupted water supply without seasonal restrictions, while the use of modern materials and technologies guarantees high-quality drinking water and a reliable system designed for 100 years of service.

Repair work is currently ahead of schedule. All stages are scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, and this project will be an important step in improving the standard of living in rural areas and the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the district's settlements.
