The exhibition “In the Mirror of the Black Lake: The Priory Park through the Eyes of Artists and Contemporaries” opened in the Priory Park in Gatchina.
How did artists of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries see the Priory Park? What was it like in the letters and memoirs of the townspeople and guests of Gatchina? What impressions, thoughts and feelings have remained forever imprinted in the memory of the park? Reproductions of artistic images of the Priory Park framed by testimonies and memories of contemporaries from the time of the ensemble's inception under Paul I to the present day will tell you about it.
Walking along the shore of the Filkin Lake, you can admire the reproductions of the park's artworks, which will transport you to the atmosphere of the past epochs. These are paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Hermitage, the All-Russian Pushkin Museum, the State Research Museum of Shchusev, the State Museum of Fine Arts “Gatchina” and other museums.
Testimonies and memories of contemporaries will show you the history of human interaction with the landscape of the “Priory valley”, guide you through the gallery of human emotions, thoughts and feelings, which at different times were associated with the Priory Park.
The project for the restoration of the Priory Park for the reign of Emperor Nicholas II was prepared and agreed by ACM Group.
