An open lecture in Spanish was held at PSU by guest lecturer Maricarmen Gomez Villafani from the University of Camagüey (Republic of Cuba).
The topic of the meeting was one of the key phenomena in world history – “Conquest and Colonization: Spanish as the Cultural Heritage of America.”
Guests and students learned about different historical perspectives on Columbus' discovery of America and discussed the cultural heritage of European conquerors and the unique intertwining of Native American, European, and African traditions. Particular attention was paid to how the Spanish language spread throughout the conquered territories and became one of the most important elements of Latin American cultural identity.
