The Small Gostiny Dvor, New Bank Line, located at 28/1 Griboyedov Canal Embankment in St. Petersburg, has been designated a regional monument.
The building is a continuation of Maly Gostiny Dvor, which occupies a quarter bounded by Muchny, Bankovye lanes, Sadovaya Street, and the embankment of the Griboyedov Canal. The site has retained its boundaries, which were formed in 1798-1800 .
Trade in this area began in 1736 after the Sea Market was moved here. After a fire in May 1782, the Sea Market was closed, and at the end of the 18th century, at the request of merchants, a two-story building with basements consisting of 35 shops was built here. By the middle of the 19th century, the building no longer met modern requirements, and in 1861, architect N. Grebenka, with the participation of E. Yurgens and M. Webel, developed a project to reconstruct the building, providing for its extension to four floors.
In the mid-1950s, the building was reconstructed: its exterior was made uniform, and the decorative and artistic design of the facades and the configuration of the roof were changed.
