Vladikavkaz is a city in the central part of the North Caucasus, the capital and cultural center of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. It is located 30 km from the Darial Gorge on both banks of the Terek River.

The population of Vladikavkaz has almost reached 300,000 people.

Vladikavkaz is a major industrial and transport hub in southern Russia. The city has developed food and light industries, as well as machine building. There are two large metallurgical plants, as well as alcohol-producing enterprises. The Dzaudzika Hydroelectric Power Plant is in operation. Vladikavkaz Airport is located on the outskirts of Beslan. The Military-Georgian Road, an important route to the Transcaucasus, passes through the city.

Thanks to its proximity to the mountains, Vladikavkaz is very popular with outdoor enthusiasts, both in the warm season and in winter. Mountain routes start from here, including the road to the Dariali Gorge and Kazbek.

Culture lovers will enjoy the local theaters and museums. In addition, the city is rich in historical heritage: buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries in the Art Nouveau and Classicism styles have been preserved here.
