The date of foundation of Pyatigorsk State University is considered to be June 27, 1939, when the Pedagogical School officially became a higher educational institution. Since then, the university has undergone various changes and transformations - an increase in the number of years of study, several renamings - and officially became known as Pyatigorsk State University in 2016. Since 2005, the head of the university is Professor Gorbunov Alexander Pavlovich.
By 2009, 10 faculties were formed at the university. Further, on their basis, institutes and higher schools were created, having one of the faculties in their composition. In addition, PSU is actively developing the system of pre-university, postgraduate and additional education. It has a branch in Novorossiysk. Currently, the university has 34 departments.
Now Pyatigorsk State University has more than 5,500 students and 3,000 students from different regions of Russia and foreign countries. All the peoples of the Caucasus are also represented in PSU.

The Stavropol State Operetta Theater showed a fascinating operetta in three acts “Die Fledermaus” - the calling card of the operetta theater, which pleases the audience for 86 years!
Teachers and students of our wonderful did not miss the opportunity and visited the theater of Pyatigorsk for the World Theater Day!
The final stage of the PSU Olympiad for high school students “Your Intellect - Your Future” took place.
The Olympiad was attended by 73 students of 9-11 grades.
The first day of the Olympiad was devoted to natural sciences - biology, mathematics and computer science.
The second day of the Olympiad included such subjects as history, Russian language, social studies.
The final day of the Olympiad was devoted to foreign languages: English, German, Spanish, Chinese, French and Arabic.
Winners, prize-winners and participants of the Olympiad will be awarded additional points for admission to PSU in accordance with the Admission Rules 2025!
Today PSU is hosting the North Caucasus Legal Forum “New Horizons of Legal Science Development and Improvement of Modern Legislation” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
During the forum a solemn ceremony of signing a cooperation agreement between Pyatigorsk State University and South Ossetian State University named after A.A. Tibilov was held. A.A. Tibilov South Ossetian State University.
On March 25, the competition of scientific projects, where the best developments in the field of IT, mathematics and natural sciences were presented, ended.
The winner was 3rd year students of the Institute of Foreign Languages and International Tourism of Pyatigorsk State University - Eduard Cherevan, Mikhail Chmyrev and Daria Gitalova with the project of neural network model of ant swarm behavior to create collectively interacting robots.
PSU is hosting the district round of the All-Russian Student Law Olympiad.
Alexander Pavlovich Gorbunov, Rector of Pyatigorsk State University, made a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony.
Participants from 13 universities of the North Caucasian Federal District came to our university to participate in the Olympiad.
There are 5 nominations in the Olympiad round:
constitutional law;
criminal law;
civil law;
tax law;
information law.
The second day of the North Caucasus Legal Forum․
Today the work of the forum “New Horizons of Legal Science Development and Improvement of Modern Legislation” continues.
Then three round tables will be held, where such topics will be considered as:
interaction between the state and civil society;
the role of modern mass media in the election campaign;
actual problems of electoral law and electoral process in the subjects of the Russian Federation.
The Mutual Aid and Mutual Respect media forum was launched, where students will create content and social advertising. The event united students from 11 universities in Stavropol.
PSU student media activists and staff of the Center for Preservation and Strengthening of Traditional Russian Spiritual and Moral Values actively participate in the media forum.
The participants are expected to attend lectures, panel discussions, master classes, project presentations, presentations by experts and work in teams.
PSU students took part in the annual charity marathon.
The event was dedicated to children from large families and children with disabilities. Volunteers from the PSU Graduate School of Design and Architecture became part of the kind event.
Before the main program began, the participants were greeted by animators in theatrical costumes, then the guests were shown a theatrical performance.
PSU students got acquainted with on-air technologies.
Third-year students of the direction “Management of Social and Cultural Activities” went to the heart of local radio and TV broadcasting - KMV Telecom media holding.
The employees of the radio station revealed to the students all the secrets of work: they showed how the presenters manage the air, how the news sounds live and how they involve the listeners in interactive conversations.
But the most interesting thing was waiting further - access to the equipment and service room, where sound is born. Students not only saw the state-of-the-art equipment, but also tried their hand at being sound engineers and presenters.
"This is an invaluable experience! Now we understand how technology helps to create live communication in the socio-cultural sphere", - shared the impressions of the tour participants.

On April 9-11, 2025 the II International Forum of Innovation Economy: Vectors of Development, initiated by the Department of Innovation, Marketing and Advertising of the university, is held at PSU in online and offline formats.
The guests of honor of the Forum were:
Vladimir Nadyko - Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District;
Sergey Polyakov - Deputy Director General for Interaction with Authorities and Civil Society Institutions, PJSC “Rosseti North Caucasus” and others.
On the first day of the forum, a grand opening ceremony was held, and a strategic cooperation agreement was signed between Pyatigorsk State University and Rosseti North Caucasus.
Further roundtable discussions on the future of cities are planned.
