The date of foundation of Pyatigorsk State University is considered to be June 27, 1939, when the Pedagogical School officially became a higher educational institution. Since then, the university has undergone various changes and transformations - an increase in the number of years of study, several renamings - and officially became known as Pyatigorsk State University in 2016. Since 2005, the head of the university is Professor Gorbunov Alexander Pavlovich.
By 2009, 10 faculties were formed at the university. Further, on their basis, institutes and higher schools were created, having one of the faculties in their composition. In addition, PSU is actively developing the system of pre-university, postgraduate and additional education. It has a branch in Novorossiysk. Currently, the university has 34 departments.
Now Pyatigorsk State University has more than 5,500 students and 3,000 students from different regions of Russia and foreign countries. All the peoples of the Caucasus are also represented in PSU.
This Saturday, Pyatigorsk State University will host Parents' Day, which is traditionally organized by activists of the PSU Student Club Culture and Creativity Center.

PSU expands its borders within the framework of the University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform
This week, PSU Business School teachers have conducted trainings not only in the south of Russia, but also in the Central Federal District.
Yesterday, Ivanovo State University of Chemical Technology hosted trainings led by N.V. Kostenko, A.V. Konstantinov and E.A. Shabanova.
PSU will host the Cyril and Methodius Readings-2025.
The readings are timed to coincide with the Day of Slavonic Script and Culture, a holiday that reminds us of the centuries-long path of language, literature and traditions started by Cyril and Methodius.

PSU students are the winners of the Hackathon and startup competition at the Caucasus Investment Forum.
The forum gathered about 600 students, young entrepreneurs, experts from the business world and representatives of executive authorities. The participants discussed how to realize the potential of the young generation for the development of the regions and the country as a whole.
One of the central events was the Hackathon for the creation of youth projects - a competition to solve cases aimed at the development of industries and regions of the Caucasus. PSU teams performed well and won prizes at the Hackathon in the direction of “Education and Technology: New Horizons for the Caucasus”:
1st place: “Innovators of Education” - students of the Institute of Foreign Languages and International Tourism;
2nd place: “Avangard” - students of the Institute of Translation, Russian Studies and Multilingualism, the Higher School of Design and Architecture and the Institute of Foreign Languages and International Tourism.
At the forum the PSU team also took the second place in the Startup Competition, within the framework of which young people present their own ideas and projects in order to attract support and further realization.
2nd place: “ChinaBrand” - students of the Institute of Translation, Russian Studies and Multilingualism.
The Institute of Translation Studies, Russian Studies and Multilingualism of Pyatigorsk State University hosted an anniversary event - “Cyril and Methodius Readings”, which the Department of Literature and Pedagogical Technologies has been organizing for 40 years in a row!
This holiday is dedicated to the great heritage of Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the Slavonic script, and the importance of the Cyrillic alphabet in the development of language, culture and education.
I.B. Fedotova, Dean of the Institute, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. O.A. Alimuradov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Activities, and Prof. A.A. Burov spoke about the role of the Cyrillic alphabet in the modern world. Their speeches set the scientific tone of the meeting and emphasized the importance of the continuity of traditions.
Secondary vocational education students of PSU will receive the scholarship of the Government of the Russian Federation from September 1, 2025.
Sofia Savina - 1st year student of the Institute of Romano-Germanic Languages, Information and Humanitarian Technologies - was awarded a scholarship of the Government of the Russian Federation in the priority area of modernization and technological development of the Russian economy.
Shevchenko Milana - 3rd year student, secondary vocational education Higher School of Design and Architecture - was also awarded a scholarship of the Government of the Russian Federation on the priority direction of modernization and technological development of the Russian economy.
The selection criterion was also the presence of victories in regional, All-Russian and international Olympiads, scientific publications, patents, as well as participation in grants.
PSU hosted a meeting with Oksana Ivanovna Oracheva, Director General of the Potanin Foundation, and Irina Eduardovna Lapidus, Director of the Foundation's programs. It became a real event for students and teachers involved in the Foundation's programs.
Winners of scholarship and grant competitions, who have already traveled this path and are ready to inspire others, spoke at the meeting with representatives of the Foundation. They told how the Foundation helped them realize their ambitious ideas.
PSU became a venue for the Regional Youth Travel Award.
On the basis of PSU took place the in-person defense of projects and awarding of participants of the regional youth tourist award “The land in children's hearts”. The organizer of the award from the university was the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Institute of Foreign Languages and International Tourism of Pyatigorsk State University.
Talented participants from different parts of Stavropol Krai successfully presented their tourist routes and were awarded with diplomas, certificates and gifts from partners
The jury evaluated the works of representatives of PSU (E.N. Goncharova), SCFU employers from the tourism industry, as well as members of the All-Russian Children's Council for Stavropol Region.
Reception of the best freshmen 2025.
From the first year of study, our students actively participate in social life, organize various events and projects. Their efforts cannot go unnoticed, that is why we honor talented and motivated freshmen who have managed to make their contribution to the life of the university.
The welcoming speech was traditionally delivered by the Rector's Advisor on Educational Work and Youth Policy - Kondrakova E.D. Elvira Dmitrievna emphasized the importance of active participation of students in the life of the university, as well as the need to develop not only academic, but also social skills.
Training of entrepreneurial competencies was held in Derbent.
Yesterday trainings were held in Derbent at two sites: at the Institute of World Economy and at the Derbent branch of the Moscow Pedagogical State University.
Ilyaeva Y.M. and Medvedeva V.P. acted as trainers from PSU.
This month PSU has already organized 26 trainings in 12 universities of the North Caucasus Federal District.
The annual meeting traditionally began with a greeting by the PSU Rector, Prof. A.P. Gorbunov and
Rector's Advisor, Professor E.D. Kondrakova.
The festive program included awarding of active alumni who participate in the life of Alma Mater, hold master classes for students, assist in organizing reunions.
Alumni shared good memories of their student years and favorite teachers with an overwhelming sense of joy in their hearts.
